Eugenia uniflora, Surinam Cherry, Brazilian Cherry, or Cayenne Cherry – seeds for sale.

Eugenia uniflora,  member of the Myrtaceae family, native to tropical South America’s  east coast. Known as Pitanga in Brazil or Ñangapirí elsewhere. It is a very pretty, large shrub to small tree growing slowly to 8m, like a dense Xmas tree shape. The pale glossy green leaves grow to 4 cm long, and has coppery new growth. Small white fragrant flowers – brilliant red fruits up to 2 cm in diameter.

Tastes sweet to sour with a moreish after taste, dark red fruit is quite sweet, while unripe fruit is very tart. Usually pest resistant, very easy to grow and high in antioxidants.[2] Can be used in gardens as a hedge or screen. High in Vitamin C, and they say you can make jam and jelly out of it, but ours never make it inside.  Yummy!

Seeds can be slow to germinate but are well worth the wait. Tree can fruit within 3 years when grown from seed.  Will handle some frosts and likes lots of water during the hotter months when it will fruit and fruit, and fruit.  Easy to grow and you can buy seeds here
